About Us

Mary Saunders, Dipl. Ac., L.Ac.

Acupuncture and Nutrition
Mary began working with the community model when she co-founded the Community Acupuncture Clinic in September, 2004. Due to the success of this first clinic and the generosity of the community, Mary opened
Boulder Community Acupuncture with extended hours and services in April, 2009.

Mary has been a practitioner of acupuncture and Oriental medicine for over 25 years. Mary's experience in the clinic has shown that when patients combine acupuncture treatment with common sense nutrition and/or herbs and supplements, the results are much quicker as well as long lasting. Mary sees a wide range of patients. She specializes in treating fatigue, stress, weak digestion, headaches, pain from inflammation, PMS, menopause, increased immunity, and weight loss.

She brings a lifelong interest and study of dietary therapy, psychology, meditation, and yoga to her patients. She uses simple and effective programs that reduce metabolic stress and encourage the body’s natural ability to heal.

Education is an important part of Mary’s experience in the acupuncture profession. She has worked at Southwest Acupuncture College in both Santa Fe and Boulder in many capacities since the 1980s. Mary was the Director for several years when the Boulder campus was opened, and most recently, was a clinical supervisor. She is a Diplomate in Acupuncture (NCCAOM), a Licensed Acupuncturist in Colorado, and is trained in the Hakomi method of body-centered psychotherapy. Mary has also completed Designs For Health's Professional Enhancement Course for Nutritionists.

Jennifer Wyler, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac.
Acupuncture and Pediatric Acupuncture (Shonishin)
Sho-ni-shin is a needle-free way of treating infants and children for such illnesses as asthma, chronic earaches, bed-wetting, insomnia, common colds and sore throats, as well as behavioral and emotional challenges. Small metal tools stimulate the channels and acupuncture points without breaking the skin. Children respond quite quickly to treatments and pediatric herbal formulas. Regular shonishin treatments are a great way to boost a weak immune system and avoid repeated use of antibiotics.

Jen also specializes in stress reduction, fatigue, and dietary recommendations.

Jennifer is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Colorado, and is NCCAOM certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese herbology. Jen also completed a program of study in acupuncture and internal medicine at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing, China. She completed an intensive pediatric and OB/GYN workshop in Bali in 2011, treating many mothers and children in a clinical setting as well as attending classes on the subject. Stephanie Wilson, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac.
Acupuncture for Pain and Sports Injuries
Acupuncture can assist the healing of both acute and chronic injuries and pain. Treatments can decrease localized inflammation, desensitize irritated nerve endings, relax contracted muscles and reduce pain. Athletic performance can be improved by temporarily “turning on” muscles to increase their power and endurance and lactic acid levels reduced to lessen post activity soreness. Acupuncture is a beneficial pre and post surgery treatment to stimulate the healing process, increase range of motion and reduce discomfort.

Stephanie is currently the team acupuncturist for the Denver Roller Dolls, an all-women roller derby team. She earned her Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College. After graduation, Stephanie studied extensively with Whitfield Reaves in the specialty of sports medicine acupuncture, completed his six-month intensive apprenticeship and currently assists his trainings and seminars. Stephanie is also on the faculty of Southwest Acupuncture College. She is a Licensed Acupuncturist in Colorado and is NCCAOM certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese herbology.

Meghan Rogers, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac.
Meghan specializes in fertility and women’s health. Her approach to achieving healthy pregnancies includes bodywork, nutritional consulting, custom herbal prescriptions and acupuncture therapy. All of these modalities have been proven to dramatically improve not only the rates of pregnancy, but also the health of pregnancy. While attending Southwest Acupuncture College, Meghan studied fertility acupuncture and herbal medicine with one of the foremost acupuncture midwives in the field, Valerie Hobbs. Over the last two years Meghan has been practicing fertility acupuncture in Philadelphia and has recently relocated to Boulder. She is a Licensed Acupuncturist in Colorado and is NCCAOM certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese herbology.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs are one of the main branches of traditional Chinese medicine. Taking an herbal formula will enhance the effectiveness of your acupuncture treatments and is often necessary to resolve chronic or difficult health issues. While Chinese herbology may be used by your acupuncture practitioner, it is also possible to have an individualized herbal consultation if needed. There is an herbal pharmacy on site at Boulder Community Acupuncture. BCA has herbs in easy-to-take pills and capsules, as well as powdered herbs to mix with water and drink as a tea.

Nutrition

Dietary therapy is one of the main branches of Chinese medicine, along with acupuncture and herbs. It has long been known that the foundation of health begins with what we put into our bodies. No healing can take place without nutrition to rebuild the body. This is especially true in modern times. In 1988, the former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop stated that the American diet was the cause of approximately two-thirds of the deaths due to disease in America. Many of the practitioners at Boulder Community Acupuncture will be happy to help you with nutritional recommendations if you are interested. BCA carries a basic line of very high quality nutritional supplements from Designs For Health.
